Grand Marshal Allen Schmid!

Allen Schmid was born in LeMars, Iowa. After high school, he joined the Air Force, graduated from the University of Maryland and got a job with Pacific Power. Schmid found himself in the Yakima Valley when his job transferred him here thirty-two years ago. Allen has been married to his wife Pamela twenty one years.

Allen has four children Alison (Darrell) Bowen of Marysville, WA, Jason Cook of Yakima, Jeffery Cook of San Francisco, and Matthew (Jennifer) Schmid of Shoreline, WA and three grandchildren, Robert Cook, Alexis Bowen and Brody Schmid.

Mr Schmid has served on the Selah Planning Commission for 15 years, the Selah City Council for eight years, and served as the Mayor Pro Tem for three years. While on the council, he was active in the rebuild of Carlon Park.

Allen served two terms as President of the Selah Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors for six years. He is a past member of the: Selah Lions Club, Selah School District levy and bond committees, and the Greater Yakima Girl's Softball Association and other organizations.

In 2006, Allen started a city wide program to help reduce the amount of graffiti in the Selah community. The project became known as the Graffiti Busters. Schmid is also heavily involved in youth activities with the belief that sports activities makes children stronger.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time his family, going to sporting events, doing the crossword and working in the yard. You might see Schmid eating his way through Selah Community Days from hobo stew, to pancakes, baked potatoes and all the goodies in at Wixson Park.
