2008 Selah Community Days
Grand Marshal Dan Anderson - Grandpa Dan

Dan Anderson was born in Rockford, Illinois on September 7, 1923. Being raised on a farm, Dan eagerly entered the Army June 12, 1942 at the age of eighteen. The lure for adventure called him to joined the 887 Airborne Glider Unit during World War II. On D day, Dan and his unit landed in French Morocco.

After military service, Dan attended college at Eastern Washington University. Upon graduating, he began a successful teaching career in Seattle, Washington teaching math and physical education. Golf and driving travel busses kept Dan busy after retiring in 1979.

Upon the death of his wife, Claire, Dan headed to Selah in 2001. Selah quickly became Dan's home where he immediately became busy with his grandchildren, Caleb and Avery Mottet. Dan also began volunteering at John Campbell Elementary. John Campbell became a second family to Grandpa Dan. He was well known to all children as "Grandpa Dan". Dan happily gave hours of his time teaching math and helping with other school duties in the lunchroom, playground or as a crossing guard. It was not surprising Dan was selected as one of Selah School District's Best of the Best Volunteer of the Year.

Dan Anderson has had a few health problems, but not enough to get him down. He eagerly looks forward to taking his motorcycle out when he gets a little stronger. Dan is honored to be this year's Selah Community Days Grand Marshall!
